The Group's principal activity is to invest in income producing rental properties located in Canada, it is a registered and listed REIT in Canada.

It primarily invests in large format, unenclosed retail centres to provide cash distributions to unit holders. The Group's portfolio consists of 119 properties with approximately 21.9 million square feet of owned gross leasable area. The Group is an unincorporated investment trust established by the declaration of trust and governed by the laws of the province of Alberta. The portfolio includes many different types of retail-related assets such as shopping malls, and they could also consider new developments.

Canadian Apartment Properties REIT

I came across this firm when I was in Ontario last week, I thought it is worth noting, as majority of REITs that I research on invest in commercial or industrial properties.It owns interests in income producing multi-unit residential properties including apartment buildings and townhouses complexes.

It is one of Canada's largest owners of multi-family rental communities, Canadian Apartment Properties Real Estate Investment Trust (CAPREIT), it has over 28,807 apartments and townhouses across Canada, and a strong presence in or near most major urban cities. In 2007, CAPREIT acquired two luxury land lease communities comprising of 1,316 sites in Newcastle and Grand Bend, Ontario. It’s an interesting investor in the multi-family asset class.

Speaking of different asset class, self-storage facilities are one of the most popular investment opportunities in United States, Canada and Australia. They are characterised with low maintenance and high yield features, and has gained popularity over the past 10 years due to changes in demographics, and smaller size of houses and apartments these days.
It owns twenty four self-storage facilities, fifteen facilities are located in Ontario, five facilities are located in British Columbia and three facility is located in Quebec and one is located in Alberta. It also owns a parcel of land in Vancouver, British Columbia for development into a self-storage facility and an existing general warehouse facility in Montreal, Quebec for conversion into a self-storage facility.
